A Brief History of St. James Anglican Church, Kemptville
St. James Anglican Church is a welcoming parish community in the heart of North Grenville, where worship, fellowship, and service have been offered to the glory of God for nearly two centuries. Since 1826, St. James has stood as a place of prayer and Christian witness, gathering generations of faithful people in the life of the Church and in service to the wider community.
As we approach the celebration of 200 years of Anglican ministry in Kemptville, we give thanks for the rich heritage entrusted to this parish and for all those who, through the years, have helped shape its life with faith, devotion, and generosity. While much has changed over time, the mission of St. James remains the same: to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to welcome all in his name, and to serve our neighbours with compassion and joy.
This present chapter in the life of St. James is a particularly significant one, as the parish is now served by its first Brazilian Rector in its 200-year history, Father Rogério de Assis. His ministry reflects both the enduring legacy of St. James and the vibrant diversity of the Church today, as the parish continues to look to the future with gratitude, hope, and a renewed commitment to faithful witness in North Grenville.

The history of Robert Leslie Memorial Hall can be traced through the Time Capsule that was recovered during the demolition of the hall in 2017. Documented by the North Grenville Historical Society, and provided here with their gracious permission, two formats are available. The original PowerPoint presentation (in 2 parts) allows you to take your time going from slide to slide. The video format of the presentation moves along a little more quickly, and it can also be played in full-screen mode.
